Home care activities:

UWCM has been providing drugs for first Aid kit to 15 Community Counselling Helpers (CCH) for the last 6 months. This has helped to improve the health of the clients. They are able to in their gardens to produce their own food and sometimes go out to counsel other clients together with the CCH, to encourage them to learn to live positively.

Distribution of seeds to the families affected by HIV / AIDS:

During this period UWCM was able to distribute seeds to 16 families affected by HIV /AIDS and / or individuals infected with HIV. This grant is greatly valued by UWCM because it reduces on the burden of UWCM in providing food handouts to orphaned / needy children and weak clients. UWCM has been able to do this with the help from Judah Trust. UK, who have committed themselves towards the support of such people.

Empowering of the 4 women groups with revolving scheme basis:

During this period 4 women groups were empowered with revolving resources in different projects such as goats rearing, oxen and plough for land tracking, poultry keeping, and bee-hives for apiary. 2 other women groups we empowered were as a result of donation of 2 heifers from the President of the Public of Uganda and proceeds of the Piggery project funded by Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

Other women groups that received the revolving resources included; kalilire hadwela Group in Nakaloke – ox and plouph for land tracking, MaraleWomen group for poultry keeping, Bufumbo Functional Adult literacy (FAL) women group – bee – keeping and Buyobo Women’s group – heifer project.

Follow up of 17 women groups:

Seventeen women groups were followed up and these are Busiita United women’s group where by 6 heifers have been passed on to other beneficiaries, I was given back to UWCM. 2 goats were passed on to another women group – Busedani Yikoya Women’s group. Busiita women’s group is one of its kind in that they have worked so hard to sustain themselves. They are now well established and have a drama group that sensitizes the communities on HIV/AIDS through songs and staging plays in the District of Mbale and sironko (newly created district out of Mbale).

Most of these projects have registered some improvement although there is strain here and there. The heifer projects take some time for proceeds to be realized and yet much is put into the project. The pigs though give quick returns but they are very expensive to maintain especially the feeds. It is for this reason that now, most women groups opt for goat rearing because they are cheap and affordable to maintain.
